2007 COMMUNITY HEALTH DATA ANALYSIS
Summary of Findings for Cape Girardeau County
This 2007 Community Health Assessment has revealed the following problems:
A: Community health status indicators:
- Leading mortality diseases are heart disease and stroke
- Childhood Asthma
- No dental care access for Medicaid and low income population
- Increase in Child Abuse
- Increase in obese children
- Increase in teen drug and alcohol use
- Increase in Hispanic families who cannot speak/understand English
- Transportation continues to need improvement
- Infant mortality rate increase slightly from 2001 and is higher than state rate
B: Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System County Level Data
- Higher than state rate for men and women over 50 years don’t have blood stool testing and colonoscopies
- 21.7% women have never had a Mammogram
- Approximately 80% of parents miss use child car seats
C: Our three public health priorities are:
- Heart disease and Stroke
- Childhood Asthma
- Poor dental care access for Medicaid and low income
