Community Garden

What is the Community Garden?

The Cape Girardeau Community Garden Project is a collaborative effort between the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, the City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation, and the Healthy Communities Coalition. The Community Garden strategy is being funded through the HEAL (Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles) grant that the Health Center received from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The goal of the Community Garden Project is to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles in the community by providing individuals with information, education, and hands-on gardening opportunities.

Where is it located?

The Community Garden will be located at the Shawnee Park Sports Complex at 1157 S. West End Blvd. in Cape Girardeau. In addition to the creation of the Community Garden, there are three Neighborhood gardens  in the City of Cape Girardeau that will be touched by this project. The Neighborhood Gardens, located within neighborhoods on Fountain Street, Main Street and near Washington Park, have been nurtured and provided produce to identified neighborhoods under the guidance of a Master Gardner

How can you help?

Although each of these gardens are unique in design, volunteer help is needed to grow the gardens and help our community to become healthy and active. Volunteers will be needed throughout the season to help with garden maintenance such as planting, weeding, and harvest. We are also looking for volunteers to teach classes related to cooking and nutrition. If you are interested in lending a hand, please fill out the Garden Volunteer Form by following the link below and the Garden Coordinator will contact you.
Thank you for your support!
